Spooktacular News!

Witches

Bubble, bubble gum of course. No, really it is that time of year. What time of year you ask? My Annual Spooky Writing Challenge. Come one, come all. I should have a new batch of classmates from ASU, bringing some stories this year I hope. Me? I don’t know?

I do have a spooky story regarding a Macbeth essay rough draft, and seven minutes of marking by my professor. It was horrific. I lived. Grade not in yet on final paper, but if you hear a scream echoing throughout the cosmos? That’s me.

All joking aside. I welcome your contributions.

Boom shakalaka……

Thank you, thank you everyone for participating. We had some great writing this year from you all. I, have a good start on a story, but with schoolwork, I just didn’t finish it. (Shakes her head in shame.) I will finish it, but I guess it will have to wait until next year. In the offering, here is a link to my very popular essay at academia.edu, must be because the word “sex” is in the title, “Lil Red Cap, the Awakening of Sexual Awareness.

Thanks to Martha, Brenda, and Sammi for participating every year, and thanks to Amanda Camacho, and Josh Kornexl, my American Lit classmates. It was my great pleasure sharing everyone’s work.

Squashed Sonnet

Brenda Davis Harsham

Freckle Goblin wriggles under gourds,

tired by a night’s divine carousing.

Freckle dreams of youthful fun in fjords.

After chasing ghosts, he can’t help drowsing.

Boom! He wakes to sulfur scents and peril.

Freckle peeks. He spots fair Glisten Rue.

“Enemy!” he hisses, turning feral.

“Flee, you witch!” he snarls. She pouts: “Listen, you

ruined parties, chased a lovely spirit.

This will be your Halloween goodnight!”

“No, my lady,” Freckle shouts, “I fear it

will be you destroyed!” He swings his right.

Acorn squash, gourds and pumpkins tumble.

Mashed and bashed, she flees. Trip and stumble!

Goblins rule on Halloween night —

even scary witches flee with fright.

Happy October First!
Mornings are dark, wet and gloomy.
The time has come to fear the Worst!!

The veil separating us from the grave
Is thinning and opening windows and doors.
Before the thirty-first, decide who you will save!

Children will turn into Monsters, Heros, Bats,
Witches, Pumpkins and Spirits from Beyond!
Get your orange on and watch out for black cats…

Halloween is coming!
